Fantasy casting

So: to London yesterday: a quick look at the generator hall in the Tate Modern (which is a stunning space ad piece of art in itself) at the Rachel Whiteread cordillera of white plastic boxes --and bookshop so full of lovely things it made my heart ache.

Then: to My Beloved Agents to agree the deal on movie options for River of Gods. Which is all hugely exciting and yes, I know the odds, but you gota have hope. Can't say too much except the guy optioning it is young, very enthusiastic, energetic and smart and has the right idea --he's not going to bother with Hollywood for openers: he's going to Bollywood, for Indian money, production talent, and SFX. Indian/Western cast (though Ralph Fiennes has expressed an interest in one of the roles, and he's talking to Fernando Meirelles (Constant Gardener, City of God)as director): these things are alwasy easier to sell with talent attached. So it's fantasy casting!!

(Despite the new 'terminal', they still haven't improved Luton Airport)

Luton Airport is very easy to improve. Get 400 bulldozers to rumble all over it for a week.

Oooo, an Indian-made movie of RoG - That would be very worth seeing, especially if Ralph was going to be involved!!! (Not that it wouldn't be otherwise, but they would stand a better chance of actually making a good job of it)

I have just this lunchtime, while browsing the St Helier Ottakars, discovered a copy of River of Gods in the travel section by the way. None in SF&F either....

A Bollywood production of River Of Gods would rock for sure. Good luck!

Oh wow - a Bollywood River of Gods would be so cool. And what a great choice for Director. Are you looking for extras? Doesn't have to be a speaking part. And I'll travel.

But seriously... have you started writing the song and dance numbers yet? And for which characters? Vishram is an obvious choice, and there is the rave on the beach. And they would easily fit into Town and Country but where else?

The producer's going out to India over Christmas to try and talk some money up and get Amitabh Bachchan (when he's well enough after his operation) signed up as well (Mr Nandha)

Wow! My first reaction was "Yay"!, then "Oh God, just imagine how Hollywood will bugger it up!", then I got to the bit about Bollywood, and thought, "Now that could be really great."

liadnan, did you tell the Ottakar's staff the book was in the wrong section? Bookshops often do stupid things like this, but they'll never learn if people don't tell them.

"Schrodinger's Kittens" (follow-up to "Schrodinger's Cat") was in the Pets section of Waterstone's in Belfast...

And Bollywood would get the colours right!

I must admit that I'm slightly boggled by the idea that Ralph Fiennes has read River of Gods.

Also boggles...but maybe he's on the whole 'ethical messaging' acting kick. He can pick & choose now.

apparently he's a family friend --the line was 'he bought our villa in Tuscany when we moved to the next valley', which I suspect is a line most of us don't get to say enough in our lives...

I cannot wait to see the dance routines. Though I suspect some of the most memorable scenes will be hard to film in a cinematic tradition where people don't kiss...

read "Set up joke, set up joke" by Rob Long, one of the writers of Cheers, on his adventures in Hollywood, that'll soon calm you down. Very scathing and very very funny. Or in that genre, "Fortune & Glory" by Brian Michael Bendis.

Question:

Would the Town and Country element fit in well as a song & dance set, with Bollywood's talent? Or would that mess up the structure of River of Gods's main plot too much?

Just found out that you have a space here at LiveJournal today. But finding out about this, as well, is just the icing on the cake. All the best in the successful fruition of this dream.

You're very welcome! And thanks --we're putting together the details of the deal right now and should get a result soon. Hope you enjoy the blog --I don't post as often as the spirit intends, but, well...
