wet wet wet [Dec. 26th, 2010|11:13 am]
Two pipebursts in three days. First one, no problem. Fixed. Second one: four thirty on Christmas Eve. No chance of getting our Super Mario plumber out to that. Thankfully, it's an external pipe so it's spraying away outside and leaving a truly impressive ice slick down the street. Unthankfully, it's knocked out all our internal watrer except for one tap in the kitchen. Victo
rian Christmas, anyone? The bummer is that the previous owners, in their home improvment frenzy, concreted in the stop cock, so the only way to shut the water off is the mains valve in the street, which (1) is under ice and (2) takes out the houses on either side of us. Godammit! And how was your Christmas?

Eep. And I thought that our last flat was bad. There, you could only shut off the water if someone let you in the building next door. None of the individual flats had stopcocks. But at least there weren't any external pipes.
So what are you doing with your toilet? Lugging buckets to the cistern from the kitchen?

And I thought being stuck in Atlanta for five days while Heathrow dug itself out was annoying. Looks like you've got me beat on that front.

Christmas in London has gone pretty well for me, all told. Here's hoping you get everything back in order by New Year's; I presume that Super Mario doesn't work on bank holidays?

Well, gosh, actually our Christmas was brilliant. :) Sorry for your water woes, though. Agh.

Very sorry to hear about your leaks. That is miserable.
I hope you at least had some heat.

You know, this puts having over grandchildren, children's ex-partners, and surprise guests into perspective.

Comparatively, I had a wonderful Newtonmas!

Sorry to hear about your Xmas. Sometimes when the bad luck piles up, I tell myself that maybe I'm getting through it all in one go. I hope your luck changes soon!

My Xmas has been good so far. Peaceful and with much good food.

Dayem! That is really inconvenient.

Our Christmas was fine. But today the vaunted snow storm the weather critters have been warning about for at least 10 days, or so it seems, has begun. A respectable accumulation already.

Love, C.

Having worked in a hardware store for several years, one of them in plumbing, nothing people do to their houses surprises me. My favorite was a fellow who came in looking for a part for his shower faucet. When told we needed to see the part in order to match it, he said he'd be right back. He came back with the cartridge from the faucet and said he was really in a hurry. He hadn't turned the water off when he remove the cartridge and water was spraying all over his bathroom.

btw. We had a quiet but very nice Christmas. We had blue skies and warm temperatures. New Mexico is a very nice place to be most of the time.
